British Designer Prepares To Strike Back In Stormtrooper Fight
London, England (AHN) - A British designer is about to engage in a legal battle with George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars franchise, over the right to make replica costumes. Andrew Ainsworth, of Shepperton Design Studios, helped Lucas to design more than a dozen characters for the first Star Wars film in the late 1970s.
Anisworth is seeking legal representation to defend himself against a $20 million claim lodged at the London High Court by the American producer.
Lucas filed an infringement lawsuit against Anisworth in 2004, after discovering that the former designer was selling unlicensed copies of Stormtrooper helmets and costumes, and TIE fighter pilot helmets.
Last month, a judge in California awarded Lucasfilm damages of $20m.
Solicitors acting for the director have issued proceedings in Britain to enforce the Californian judgment.
